Forest School Fun

Outdoor Learning and Forest School - 11.9.25

Outdoor Learning -

Year 6 were busy this morning, cleaning, digging, weeding, harvesting and tasting. We picked tomatoes, potatoes, rhubarb, runner beans and grapes. These were then tasted, with some pupils discussing their uses within their home cooking and the food industry as a whole. We also collected seed pods for next years planting and turned soil to prep for winter cultivation.

🌿 A Brilliant Start to Forest School with Year 4 and 5 🌿

This week marked the exciting return of Forest School for our Year 4 and 5 pupils—and what a fantastic start it was! With boots on and spirits high, we ventured into the arboretum to reconnect with nature, challenge ourselves, and build on the outdoor skills we’ve been developing over time.

The session began with a calm exploration of the arboretum. Pupils were encouraged to notice the changes in the environment since last term—new growth, fallen leaves, and the subtle signs of the changing season. It was a lovely opportunity to slow down, observe, and appreciate the natural world around us. The children were curious and respectful, showing a real sense of wonder and care for their surroundings.

The main challenge of the day was den building—a favourite among our learners! Using ropes, tarps, and natural materials, pupils worked in small teams to create shelters. They revisited their knowledge of knots, applying techniques like the clove hitch and square lashing with growing confidence. It was brilliant to see them problem-solving, negotiating roles, and adapting their designs as they worked. The creativity and teamwork on display were truly impressive.

A special mention must go to our Year 5 pupils. Their journey in Forest School has been immense. Compared to this time last year, their maturity, resilience, and independence have grown remarkably. They approached the task with focus and determination, supporting one another and showing real leadership. It was a joy to watch them take ownership of their learning in such a natural and meaningful way.

We’re so proud of all the pupils for their enthusiasm and effort. This session has set a wonderful tone for the term ahead, and we can’t wait to see how their skills and confidence continue to grow.
