Week Beginning 12th October 2026

Run, Run, As Fast As You Can! 🍪🏃

We have had another lovely week in Dosbarth Pili-Pala, with The Gingerbread Man inspiring lots of our learning and enhanced provision!

Our enhanced provision and COOL challenges this week have all been centred around the traditional tale. In our playdough area, the children have been busy rolling, cutting and shaping their own Gingerbread Men, carefully adding features such as eyes, buttons and smiles. In our creative area, they became designers, creating wonderful houses for the Gingerbread Man using different colours, shapes and materials. Children challenged themselves to include repeating patterns in their designs.

In our construction area, we had a very important problem to solve – how could we help the Gingerbread Man cross the river without getting caught by the fox? The children designed and built their own boats, thinking carefully about how to make them strong, stable and big enough to carry the Gingerbread Man safely across. They also had opportunities to test their creations and make improvements to their designs.

In our writing area, the children became bakers, creating their own recipes for making Gingerbread Men. They drew and labelled ingredients before having a go at writing instructions, using time words such as first, next, then and finally to explain the steps in the correct order. Meanwhile, in our maths area, the children helped the baker by using Numicon to match numbers, explore number bonds and investigate different ways of making the same number.

Alongside all of our Gingerbread Man activities, we have continued with our assessments this week. We have been so impressed by the children's hard work, growing confidence and determination to have a go at different challenges. It has been lovely to see how much progress they are already making, and we are incredibly proud of them!

We hope everyone has a wonderful weekend 🦋
