A Week of Hard Work, Wonderful Writing and Harvest Celebrations! 🍂
From rounding challenges to Harvest celebrations – another fantastic week of learning in Year 5!
We have had another busy and rewarding week in Year 5, with lots of opportunities to celebrate our learning, determination and teamwork!
In Maths, we have been consolidating our understanding of rounding numbers to the nearest thousand and ten thousand. We have been applying our place value knowledge to help us decide whether numbers should round up or down, building our confidence along the way. Towards the end of the week, we put our skills to the test through a range of problem-solving activities, where we had to think carefully, explain our reasoning and apply our rounding skills in different situations. It has been lovely to see the progress the children have made with this challenging topic!
In Literacy, we have reached the end of our writing journey focusing on diary writing. The children have worked incredibly hard to develop their writing skills, using precise verbs, descriptive detail and the key features of diary entries to create engaging pieces of writing. The finished results have been fantastic, and we are very proud to display their wonderful work on our Gwaith Gwych wall. Well done, everyone!
This week, we have also been completing some of the Welsh Government online personalised assessments. The children have approached these with a positive attitude, showing great determination, concentration and resilience when answering the questions. We are very proud of the effort they have put in.
We have also enjoyed some fantastic outdoor learning opportunities this week. The children have been busy helping to create the beautiful Harvest display in the school hall, as well as planting bulbs and preparing the flower beds for the coming seasons. It has been wonderful to see everyone working together, taking responsibility for our school environment and enjoying some practical learning outdoors.
Finally, we ended the week on a real high with our wonderful Harvest Festival! The children performed their poem with fantastic poise, confidence and pride, and it was lovely to see all their hard work and rehearsals come together. We are incredibly proud of them and the part they played in making the celebration so special.
What a fantastic way to finish the week! We hope everyone has a lovely, restful weekend, ready for another exciting week of learning!
