Learning, resilience and teamwork – another fantastic week in Year 5!
We have had another busy and productive week in Year 5, with lots of learning, perseverance and teamwork!
In Maths, we have been developing our understanding of rounding numbers, working with increasingly larger numbers up to five and six digits. We have been learning how to round numbers to the nearest 10, 100, 1,000, 10,000 and 100,000, using our place value knowledge to help us decide whether a number should round up or down. We have also been looking carefully at which digit we need to focus on when rounding to different place values. This has certainly challenged us this week! However, the children have shown fantastic resilience, persevering when they have found something difficult and learning from their mistakes. As this is such an important skill, we will be revisiting rounding again next week to consolidate our learning and build our confidence.
In Literacy, we have begun our new writing journey focusing on diary writing. This week, we have been exploring the key features of a diary entry and looking at what makes diary writing interesting for the reader. We have also been working hard to improve our writing by choosing precise verbs and adding descriptive detail to bring our experiences to life. We are looking forward to putting all these skills together as our writing journey continues.
Our PE lessons have continued to focus on invasion games, but this week we have been developing our skills using both hockey sticks and basketballs. We have been thinking carefully about how we can use deception to outwit an opponent, as well as the importance of communication and teamwork when playing with others.
In IT, we have been thinking about what it means to be a responsible digital citizen. The children have been creating their own Digital Citizen Pledge, considering how we can all use technology safely, responsibly and respectfully within our classroom.
Next week, we are looking forward to continuing all of our learning, as well as celebrating our Harvest Festival on Friday. We hope everyone has a lovely weekend!
