What an exciting week we have had in Year 4! We have absolutely jumped into our new inquiry: Tudors, Kings, Queens, Presidents and Prime Ministers – Who Gets the Power? There has already been so much enthusiasm, curiosity and brilliant discussion, and we can't wait to see where our learning takes us.

A Tudor Feast!

We started our Jump In Day with a lesson all about Tudor food. We learned about the sorts of foods Tudor people would have eaten and then had a go at making our very own vegetable pottage.

Let's just say... it was a dish that divided opinion! Some children really weren't convinced, while others absolutely loved it and managed to eat three bowls full! We even invited Mrs Jenkins to join us for our Tudor banquet at the end of the day. We think she was being very polite when she told us how delicious our pottage was! 

We also learned that the Tudors were a family of Kings and Queens who ruled for 118 years. They certainly seem to have been a fascinating family, with some very interesting characters, and we can't wait to find out more about them!

New Learning in Literacy

As if our Tudor adventures weren't enough, we have also begun a brand-new unit of learning in Literacy all about biographies. We are learning what makes a good biography and will be exploring the lives of interesting rulers as we develop our own writing skills.

Maths

In Maths, we have finished our revision of addition and subtraction. We have worked hard to revisit our methods and make sure our understanding is secure. Next, we are looking forward to moving on to measuring and shape. 

A Very Funny Science Lesson!

Science was particularly hilarious this week! We worked in pairs to draw around each other to create an outline of a human body. We then had to decide where we thought all of our major organs should go. Some of our knowledge was fantastic... and some of our guesses were much less accurate! 

We are now really excited to learn more about the digestive system and carry out some experiments to discover exactly what happens to our food as it travels through our bodies. Warning: things might get a little gross! 

Exciting Tudor News

We have some VERY exciting news to share... We are going to visit Pembroke Castle in October!  Pembroke Castle is the birthplace of King Henry VII and has a wealth of fascinating Tudor history for us to explore. We can't wait for what promises to be a fantastic day out and an opportunity to bring our inquiry to life.
