We have had another busy and enjoyable week in Year 5, with lots of fantastic learning taking place!

In maths this week, we have been focusing on using a range of mental strategies to add and subtract. The children have been thinking carefully about which strategies are the most efficient and have also been honing their problem-solving skills by applying their mathematical knowledge to different challenges. In Literacy, we have been getting creative by writing about our perfect school day! We have had some brilliant ideas about what our dream day at school might look like. As part of our writing, we have been working hard to vary our sentence starters and use subordinating conjunctions to add extra detail and make our sentences more interesting.

⛪ Cynefin
We have continued exploring our Cynefin and thinking about the places that make our local area special. The children carefully sketched St Canna’s Church, looking closely at its features and details. We then thought about other important landmarks and buildings in our local area and created drawings to represent the places that are significant to our community. In PE, we have been developing our passing and receiving skills. The children worked brilliantly together, concentrating on accurate passes, moving into space and communicating with their teammates. We finished the session with a fantastic and very competitive game of bench ball, where everyone had the chance to put their skills into action!
