What an exciting week of learning we have had in Dosbarth Draenog! We have been settling into our new routines, getting to know our learning expectations and, most importantly, enjoying lots of fantastic learning together.

Amazing Maths!

We have been developing our understanding of place value and partitioning numbers, thinking carefully about how numbers can be broken down in different ways.

We have also been getting to grips with rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1,000 and even stretching our thinking to 10,000 and 100,000! There has been lots of discussion, reasoning and some very impressive mathematical thinking.

Becoming More Mature Writers

In English, we have been thinking about how we can make our writing more interesting and mature. We have been learning about expanded noun phrases and exploring how carefully chosen adjectives and additional information can help us create much more detailed descriptions.

We are already beginning to think more carefully about the vocabulary we choose and how we can make our writing really effective.

A Mini Inquiry Into Our Local Area

We have also started a mini inquiry into our local area. We have been researching, investigating and collecting interesting facts which we will use next week to write our very own magazine articles.

We are looking forward to turning all of our research into informative and engaging pieces of writing and seeing just how much we can teach our readers about the place we live!

New Routines

We have been getting to grips with our new routines for reading, spelling and homework. Thank you for your support as we establish these habits; they will become an important part of our weekly learning.

Homework & Spelling Reminders

Homework and spelling have been issued today. Homework can be found on the class page of the school website, in its own area.

If you were unable to attend our Meet the Teacher meeting, the PowerPoint from the meeting is also available on the class page of the website.

Please remember that children should complete their weekly assigned Mathletics activities and their spelling games on EdShed. You can find all of your children's log-in details in the front cover of their homework book.

• New spelling lists will be issued every Friday.
• Every Friday, there will also be a spelling test revisiting old words, giving children the opportunity to practise and retain the spelling patterns and vocabulary they have already learned.

Book Bags

Each child has been given a new book bag. This should travel to and from school every day and should contain:

• Reading record
• Reading book
• Spelling book

Please help your child to remember their book bag each day so that we can keep our reading and spelling routines running smoothly.

It has been a wonderful start, and we are incredibly proud of how everyone is settling into our new routines and embracing their learning.
