Week Beginning 29th June 2026

Time Flies in Pili-Pala! ⏰🦋
It has been another exciting and busy week in Dosbarth Pili-Pala!
On Monday, we were delighted to welcome our families to our Nature Inquiry Jump Out Day. The children proudly showcased everything they have been learning throughout the term, including their British wildlife leaflets, beautiful Eric Carle-inspired artwork, decorated plant pots and our practical pollen bee game. We also had flowers and plants available to purchase. A huge thank you to everyone who visited our stall and supported us by buying our plants and flowers – we really appreciate your generosity and support!
In maths this week, we have been learning all about telling the time. The children worked collaboratively to build giant analogue clocks using hoops, sticky notes and rulers before exploring how the hour and minute hands move. They then practised making and reading different times using their own paper plate clocks, with challenges ranging from o'clock and half past to quarter past, quarter to and 5 and 10 minute intervals. It has been wonderful to see the children's confidence grow as they explained their mathematical thinking and challenged one another with different times.
In literacy, we began creating our own British wildlife fact files. The children became wildlife researchers, selecting an animal of their choice and using books, information cards and digital resources to research fascinating facts. They have started organising their findings under headings such as appearance, habitat, diet and interesting facts, ready to produce informative fact files that teach others about Britain's amazing wildlife.
As we approach the end of the school year, we have also been enjoying some pupil-led activities. In PE, the children used pupil voice to choose their favourite activity and unanimously voted for the parachute! It was wonderful to see everyone working together, communicating and having lots of fun.
This week also included our transition morning. Some of our children enjoyed spending time in their new Year 2 classroom, getting to know their new teacher and environment, while the children who will remain in Pili-Pala next year did a fantastic job welcoming and looking after the children who will be joining Reception in September. We were incredibly proud of how caring, responsible and encouraging they were as they helped our new starters settle in.
We hope everyone has a wonderful weekend, and we look forward to another exciting week of learning together!
