Dosbarth Llwynog – Weekly Blog 19.6.26

Musicals, enquiry, outdoor learning.

This week has been a very exciting one in Dosbarth Llwynog as preparations for our summer show, High School Musical, are well underway. The children have been working incredibly hard learning their lines, practising songs and refining their stage directions. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they bring the production to life. We are all looking forward to sharing our hard work with audiences very soon!

As our National Parks inquiry draws to a close, we have spent time reflecting on our learning and considering how we can answer our driving question. Throughout the inquiry, much of our research has focused on National Parks in Wales. This week, however, we broadened our horizons through a research project called "Meanwhile, Elsewhere...", exploring National Parks and conservationists from around the world. Using their research, the children created impressive non-chronological reports, demonstrating excellent independent learning skills and a growing understanding of the importance of conservation on a global scale.

In Science, we carried out an investigation into our school ecosystem, exploring the biodiversity found within our school grounds. The children worked scientifically to identify and record the plants, insects and other living organisms they discovered, considering how different species depend on one another for survival. Using their findings, they created detailed food webs to show the complex relationships within an ecosystem and developed their understanding of how changes to one part of a habitat can impact the entire food web. The quality of the children's observations, data collection and scientific reasoning was excellent.

In Outdoor Learning, we enjoyed harvesting produce from our school garden and selling it to parents and carers after school. This was a fantastic opportunity for the children to see the rewards of their hard work and learn more about sustainability, enterprise and the journey from garden to table.

We are looking forward to our final weeks together in Year 6 and celebrating all that we have achieved throughout the year.
