Outdoor learning, World Cup, Stories and more!!
This week in Year 5 has been full of exciting learning across the curriculum!
In Literacy, we completed our final narrative writing piece of the year. We linked our stories to our current topic question, "How does weather affect where we live?" Throughout the writing process, we worked hard to create engaging and imaginative narratives that showcased all of the skills we have developed this year. We focused on using a wide range of descriptive techniques, including expanded noun phrases, powerful verbs, ambitious vocabulary, similes, metaphors, personification and varied sentence structures to bring our settings and characters to life. We also carefully considered how weather could influence events within our stories, helping us make meaningful links to our wider curriculum learning. We are incredibly proud of the creativity, effort and progress shown in our final pieces.
The excitement continued as we became completely World Cup crazy! Across the week, we have been researching the history of the World Cup, learning about famous tournaments, legendary players and the countries that have hosted this incredible sporting event. In Maths, we applied our skills through a variety of World Cup-themed activities, using data handling, statistics, problem-solving and reasoning challenges based on match results, league tables and tournament facts. It has been a fantastic way to combine our love of sport with our mathematical thinking.
We also began our new Health and Wellbeing topic, focusing on the importance of sleep. We explored why sleep is essential for both our physical and mental health and discussed how good sleep habits can help us concentrate, learn effectively and feel our best each day. We have started learning about healthy bedtime routines, factors that can affect sleep quality and ways we can make positive choices to support our wellbeing. We are looking forward to developing our understanding of this important topic over the coming weeks.
It has been another busy and successful week in Year 5, filled with creativity, curiosity and enthusiasm for learning. We can't wait to see what next week brings!
