Dosbarth Llwynog – 5.6.26

This week in Maths, we took part in a real-life budgeting project linked to baking and selling cupcakes. First, we were given an ingredients list and used our knowledge of multiplication and converting measures to calculate exactly how much of each ingredient we would need. We then carried out online shopping research across three different supermarkets, comparing prices and working out which products and shops offered the best value for money. Once we had calculated our expenditure, we explored different selling prices for our cupcakes and worked out our potential income and profit. This was a fantastic opportunity to apply our numeracy skills in a meaningful real-world context. Homework this week builds on these important money management and budgeting skills.
In Literacy, we began planning and writing our end-of-year assessment narratives. We are focusing on writing stories from different perspectives, with each section told through the eyes of a different person. We have enjoyed developing our ideas and experimenting with different viewpoints to make our writing more engaging. We will continue drafting and refining our stories next week.
On Tuesday, we took part in a whole-school Arts Day. We explored the question: "What might happen if we protect our National Parks... and what might happen if we don't?" Through our theme of Art with a Message, we researched the work of Banksy, Chris Jordan and Andy Goldsworthy. We discussed symbolism in art and how artists use natural materials, colour, texture and contrasting images to communicate powerful messages. Using mixed media and natural resources, we created our own artwork entitled Two Futures: The Choice is Ours, which highlighted the importance of protecting our natural environment for future generations.
Finally, on Friday, we enjoyed taking part in our annual Cluster Olympics at NIAC. It was wonderful to spend time with friends from our cluster schools while competing in a variety of sporting events. The day was full of teamwork, determination and sportsmanship, and we were incredibly proud of the effort and enthusiasm shown by all members of Dosbarth Llwynog.
