Dosbarth Llwynog – Weekly Blog 🦊☀️ 22.5.26

What a busy and successful week we have had in Dosbarth Llwynog! 🦊
In Maths, we continued our work on percentages, focusing on calculating percentage increases and decreases. The children have worked hard to apply their understanding to a range of problems and have shown growing confidence in using these skills. This week has also been assessment week, with pupils completing both national and in-house assessments. I am incredibly proud of the effort, resilience and positive attitudes shown by everyone. I am looking forward to sharing the excellent progress the children have made in their end-of-year reports.
In Literacy, we have continued our instructional writing journey. This week, we focused on using parenthesis and relative clauses to add extra detail and improve the quality of our writing. The children then applied these skills to their hot tasks, producing some fantastic pieces of instructional writing. We also challenged our reading skills through a range of comprehension activities linked to our National Parks inquiry, using evidence from texts to support our understanding and answers.
In Art, we explored the work of Welsh landscape artist Rob Piercy and studied how he uses colour, texture and perspective to capture the beauty of the Welsh landscape. Inspired by his work, the children created their own watercolour paintings of National Parks in Wales. They carefully blended colours to create dramatic skies, mountains and natural scenery, producing some beautiful pieces of artwork that showcased both their creativity and their understanding of the landscapes we have been studying.
After half-term, we will begin an exciting new writing journey and start our Maths Consolidation Project. This will give pupils the opportunity to work collaboratively to solve a variety of real-life mathematical problems, including budgeting, profit and loss, and other practical challenges, using the skills they have developed throughout the year.
We will also continue our National Parks inquiry, with lots of exciting learning experiences planned for our final half-term together. We have several trips and events to look forward to, including:
