Happy Half Term!

What a fantastic final week we have had before half term!

This week, we completed our exciting Passion Projects all about Japan and Extreme Weather. The children worked incredibly hard researching and presenting their ideas, showing excellent teamwork, creativity and curiosity. Some of the fascinating questions we explored included:

  • Can Japan design houses that can survive natural disasters?
  • Has Japan experienced hurricanes and how did people survive them?
  • How do plants in Japan survive extreme weather conditions?
  • How do heatwaves in Japan affect fish production and Japanese culture?

The children discovered how Japan uses advanced technology and clever engineering to make buildings safer during earthquakes and typhoons. They also learned about the impact extreme weather can have on farming, fishing and everyday life in Japan. Some groups researched how climate change is affecting oceans and wildlife, while others explored how Japanese communities prepare for emergencies and recover after natural disasters. We were so impressed with the thoughtful discussions, detailed research and confident presentations from everyone!

In Literacy, we completed our final writing journey of the half term. We carefully planned, drafted, edited and improved our formal persuasive emails before sending our final letters to Mr Howles. The children worked hard to use persuasive language, formal tone and powerful arguments to make their writing effective and convincing. It was wonderful to see how much progress everyone has made with their writing this term.

We also had Sports Day this week — and what a brilliant day it was! In the morning, we took part in a carousel of fun activities including dodge ball, jailbreak and Just Dance. The children showed fantastic teamwork, resilience and encouragement towards one another throughout all of the activities.

In the afternoon, the excitement continued with our Sports Day races! We competed in sprint races, obstacle races, sack races and relay races. Every child gave their absolute best effort and demonstrated amazing sportsmanship by cheering each other on and celebrating everyone’s achievements. The atmosphere was full of energy, laughter and team spirit, and we are so proud of how well everyone represented our class.

Summer play auditions will be taking place on Thursday 4th June. If your child would like to audition for a speaking role, they can find the audition script and song on Google Classroom. We encourage everyone to have a go and practise over the half term break. We cannot wait to see all of the amazing talent and confidence our class has to offer!

Well done to everyone for a fantastic half term! We hope you all have a wonderful break — enjoy some rest, play in the sunshine and take care of yourselves.

We look forward to seeing you all back in school on Tuesday 2nd June!
