Week Beginning 18th May 2026

Bee-ing Busy in Pili-Pala 🐝🌼

It has been a very bee-sy week in Dosbarth Pili-Pala as we celebrated World Bee Day on Wednesday and spent the week learning all about bees and the incredibly important role they play in our world. 🐝🌼

Throughout the week, our enhanced provision areas were all centred around bees. In the writing area, the children created persuasive posters encouraging people to help save the bees, sharing why bees are so important for plants, flowers and our planet. In the fine motor area, the children carefully used tweezers to move the correct “pollen” into matching coloured pots, developing their hand strength and coordination. In the playdough area, the children created their own bees, closely studying photographs so they could include important details before labelling the different parts of a bee. Meanwhile, in the creative area, the children explored different species of bees and created beautiful mixed-media bee artwork, thinking carefully about the colours, patterns and features that made each one unique. In the construction area, the children designed and built their own beehives, exploring different 3D shapes and thinking carefully about the different parts a hive needs for bees to live and work inside.

On Tuesday, we were very lucky to receive a special visit from Jonathan Griffiths, who helps care for our school beehive. Jonathan taught the children all about bees, including how they make honey, the important jobs bees do when pollinating plants, and why they are so vital to our environment. He showed us real honeycomb and beeswax from a hive, explained the special equipment beekeepers use, and even let the children try on a real bee suit! The children were fascinated and asked lots of thoughtful questions throughout the session.

Thursday was also an exciting day as the children took part in our Sports Day, competing proudly for their house teams. The children showed fantastic determination, teamwork and encouragement towards one another throughout the afternoon, and we were so proud of the way they represented Dosbarth Pili-Pala.

We would like to wish all of our families a happy, safe and restful half term, and we hope everyone enjoys the sunshine!
