Week Beginning 11.05.2026

Caterpillars 🐛 and Butterflies 🦋

This week in Pili Pala we have been very busy learning all about caterpillars and butterflies! The children have enjoyed a range of exciting challenges linked to life cycles, minibeasts, and nature. We explored how caterpillars grow and change into beautiful butterflies and talked about the different stages of the life cycle.

One of our favourite activities this week was sharing the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The children loved joining in with the repeating parts of the story and discussing all the different foods the caterpillar ate. We used the story to inspire lots of our learning activities throughout the week, including developing our digital skills.

We have also been very excited because our very own caterpillars have now gone into their chrysalis stage! The children have loved observing the changes closely and talking about what might happen next. We cannot wait to see them transform into butterflies over the coming weeks.

In Maths, the children have been showing off their fantastic maths skills by taking part in a fun maths quiz. We were so impressed with their counting, number recognition, problem-solving, and confidence when answering questions. Da iawn everyone!

Our Year 1 children have also been working very hard on their spellings this week. They have been practising tricky words and using their phonics knowledge to help them become more confident writers and readers.

Next week we are very excited to welcome Jonathan, our Bee Keeper, into school to talk to the children all about bees as part of our celebrations for World Bee Day on Wednesday. The children will have the opportunity to learn about the important role bees play in nature and how we can help look after them.

We are very proud of all the hard work and enthusiasm shown by the children this week. Bendigedig Pili Pala! 🦋🐝
