Are we creating an Electric Car company?

Dosbarth Draenog - 13.3.26

What an incredibly busy and productive week we’ve had in Dosbarth Draenog! The classroom has been buzzing with creativity, critical thinking, and plenty of hands-on learning.

Here is a look at what we have been up to this week:

Revving Up Our STEM Skills

The highlight of our week took over the first two and a half days: building our very own electric cars! The pupils became real engineers as they tackled this Design and Technology project. They showed fantastic maturity and teamwork while safely learning to use tools like saws to cut their chassis and glue guns to secure their designs.

They also had to apply their science knowledge to build and install a small working electrical circuit to power their vehicles. Once the cars were built, the real fun began—testing! The pupils raced and tested their models, followed by a brilliant evaluation session where they discussed what worked well and how they might improve their designs in the future.

Health and Wellbeing: Challenging Stereotypes

In our Health and Wellbeing session this week, we had some incredibly mature and insightful discussions about stereotypes in the workplace.

We explored how certain jobs are historically associated with specific genders and challenged those outdated ideas. The pupils showed great empathy and understanding, recognising that anyone can be a builder, a nurse, a scientist, or an artist, regardless of gender. It was wonderful to hear them talk so passionately about fairness and their own future aspirations!

🌲Forest School: Finding Our Way

We took our learning outdoors for a fantastic Forest School session focused on orienteering.

The pupils had to use their navigational skills, read maps, and work together in teams to find specific markers hidden around our outdoor area. It was a great way to develop communication, boost physical fitness, and enjoy the fresh air.

Maths: Mastering Multiplication & Division

In Mathematics, we put our calculating hats on to tackle some tricky multiplication and division word problems.

Rather than just looking at the numbers, the pupils had to carefully read the problems, figure out which operation to use, and apply their times tables knowledge to find the solutions. We are really proud of the perseverance they showed when faced with some of the more complex multi-step challenges!

Diolch for your continued support at home. Have a wonderful weekend, and we will see you on Monday for another great week of learning!
