Happy Science Week!
This week has been incredibly busy and exciting in our classroom!
In Design and Technology, we completed our battery-operated car projects. The children worked hard to design and build their own moving vehicles, using a range of practical skills. They carefully used saws to cut materials, glue guns to construct their models, and created simple electrical circuits to power their cars. Teamwork was essential throughout the project, as pupils supported one another with building, problem-solving and testing their designs. Once finished, we tested our cars and evaluated our final products, thinking about what worked well and what we might improve next time.
Alongside this project, we also explored STEM careers and the important skills needed to succeed in these fields, such as problem solving, teamwork, creativity and resilience. Each pupil chose a STEM job to research and wrote about why they might like to do that job in the future.
We were also very lucky to have a visit from one of our parents, Mrs Davies, who shared her fascinating job with us. Mrs Davies is a Senior Intelligence Analyst, and she explained how she leads a team of data analysts and intelligence researchers. Together, they study crime data from across South Wales to identify trends, patterns and opportunities for law enforcement to disrupt organised crime groups. The children were really interested to hear how data and careful analysis can help keep communities safe.
In addition to all of this, we have started an exciting music project linked to the Troy Legacy soundtrack. The class has begun creating their own sci-fi soundtracks using GarageBand, experimenting with different sounds, instruments and effects to create music that feels dramatic and futuristic.
It has certainly been an extremely busy week filled with creativity, collaboration and lots of fantastic learning!
