Happy Half Term!
What a fantastic and very busy week we have had in class!
This week we proudly completed our Passion Projects. Over the past few weeks, the children have been planning, designing and carefully creating their projects in their books. They have shown wonderful creativity, independence and perseverance while researching topics that truly interest them. It has been lovely to see their personalities shine through their work and to watch their confidence grow as they developed their ideas. We are so proud of the effort, presentation and thought that went into each project.
This week has also been Children’s Mental Health Week, and we have been exploring this year’s theme: “This Is My Place.”
We took part in a whole-school assembly and completed lessons focused on belonging. The children reflected thoughtfully on questions such as:
- Where do I feel safe and happy?
- Who makes me feel valued?
- What does belonging mean to me?
Through discussion, drawing and reflective activities, the children explored the importance of feeling connected to people and places. It was wonderful to hear them share what makes them feel supported and how they can help others feel like they belong too.
On Tuesday, we marked Safer Internet Day. We worked collaboratively with Year 4 to create a TV news report based on different online scenarios.
The children acted as news reporters, presenters and experts, exploring situations that might happen online—such as receiving messages from strangers, seeing unkind comments, or being unsure whether information is true. They then discussed and presented strategies for staying safe, including:
- Not sharing personal information
- Telling a trusted adult
- Blocking and reporting
- Thinking carefully before posting
The collaboration between the two year groups was fantastic, and the children showed maturity and confidence when discussing how to navigate the online world safely.
We were also lucky enough to take part in a Tecnocamps workshop using micro:bits. The children were introduced to basic coding and computational thinking skills. They programmed their micro:bits to perform different functions, experimenting with inputs, outputs and simple algorithms.
It was wonderful to see their problem-solving skills in action as they debugged their programs and supported one another. The workshop sparked lots of excitement and curiosity about technology and coding!
It has been a full and rewarding week, and we are incredibly proud of all the hard work the children have shown.
We would like to wish everyone a very happy and restful half term! We look forward to seeing you all after the break, ready for another exciting term of learning.
